Backlink Checker

Blue Backlinks is in beta for almost 2 months now. It should go live tomorrow and today we are working on the last new features and other modifications. I am not sure if we going to meet this deadline because we didn’t really test the new features yet. Hopefully we have enough time today to fully test and run it.

Features to be added

In beta we only showed some basic features, as anchor text, outbound links and follow or nofollow links (which is still very useful information to know). Most backlink checkers show this information, so we got to be unique at some point. That is why we add way more features than most other sites where you can check backlinks.

There will be an option to export it to excel so you can analyse it. You will be able to sort your backlinks according to different parameters which is very useful when you have a lot of backlinks. There will be more features, but you can check them out yourself tomorrow :)

This backlink tool is part of the Webmaster Cage network and we are planning one more site for it at the moment. The first goal is to have a 3 sites strong network for webmasters. The third site is already in development, but I will not disclose the topic yet. It will also be a service for webmasters though, probably bigger than our backlink checker.

Make Money with Adsense

Money from Adsense

One of my goals is to get a stable income from adsense. At this moment I am only netting around €100 monthly. Good for my server expenses and a few hamburgers, but that’s it. To make this a serious income stream it has to hit €500 monthly or more. My goal is to hit €600 a month (€20 a day) by the end of 2010. There are 4 months left to reach this goal and I really want to hit it.

High paying keywords

Last year I registered a domain with 2 financial keywords in it. The exact search volume is 5,400 a month and I am trying to get a share of this. I will create the website this month and am planning to add around 100 articles to it in a timespan of 3 months. If I am able to do this and will build links to it I think this website can earn me around €300 monthly. Lets see how it goes.

Adsense tips

Who am I to give you tips on adsense? I am only making €100 a month. But… I tried a couple of different things and ad sizes. So I will share some basic adsense tips with you.

  • Ad color – Blue came out as the best performing color.
  • Ad sizes – The bigger the better. Use the big blocks like the one below.

Don’t use too many ads on 1 page though. Sometimes less is more and it might get you more value per click to. If you have any valuable tips, please leave them in the comments and I might give you a shout out in one of my next blog posts :)

How to become a trusted website to increase SE rankings

Authority

The authority of a website influences its position in the search results on Google and other search engines. If you want to see your website on Google’s first result page, you have to make sure that search engines trust your site.

Get links from seed sites or from websites that are linked from seed sites

Seed sites are websites that are manually marked as trustworthy by the search engine owners. For example, if HTC.com has been chosen as a seed website by Google then a link from HTC.com will have a positive effect on the TrustRank of your website. Of course, it is very difficult to get a link from a trusted seed site. Fortunately, the websites that are linked from the seed sites also have a positive effect on the linked sites.

If HTC.com links to website site2.com, website site2.com links to website site3.com and website site3.com links to your website then your website will still get a good TrustRank.

Don’t become a lonely island

Does your website get links from related websites and does it link to other related websites? Is your website a lonely island with no links from and to other websites or is it integrated in a network that deals with a special topic? The better your website is integrated in a network of topical sites (by different owners), the more likely it is that your website is a good resource for that topic.

Links from social networks

The more often your website is mentioned on social media websites, the more likely it is that your website is a trustworthy high quality website. The more votes your bookmarks on social media sites get, the better.

Offer more than just a few pages

A website that consists of only one page won’t be considered an authority website. Search engines want to show good websites with good content in the search results. If your website has many pages that contain great content about a certain topic then it is much easier to get a good TrustRank.

If search engines trust your website, it is much easier to get high rankings.

About Google Instant

What is Google Instant?

When typing a search query with Google Instant, results appear after the first letter is entered, and they update as the user types. Marissa Mayer, Google’s vice president of search and user experience, said results are actually delivered “before you type”, because Google Instant predicts and automatically completes search terms.

According to Google, a typical searcher spends nine seconds entering a query, and 15 seconds searching for answers. Google hopes to shave two to five seconds per search using Google Instant. Google claims that Instant won’t considerably slow down Internet connections, because the amount of data delivered for search terms is relatively small, and because the system only sends parts of the page that change when more typing alters a search result.

For connections that are already slow, Google Instant automatically turns off, and users can also shut off the service through their user preferences or by clicking the drop down box to the right of the search bar.

Search the web as you type

Like I said above, search results will appear after the first letter you enter. Google is showing results like crazy and is changing rapidly when I type another letter or change one. I don’t like it. When I want to search for something I have a keyword or phrase in my head and that’s what i’m going to type. With these instant results I am stopping automaticly to see if the desired results are already showing up. If not, I have to move on and type further. It is not saving me time at all!

Get rid of spam

An interesting view came from Alex Dumitru, who talks about getting rid of spam in search results due to Google Instant. Spammers that try to rank high for typos will probably get less visitors and attention. Google is predicting the word / phrase you are looking for. It will detect typos and correct the search results for you.

It’s an interesting feature so far. But Google didn’t sell it to me yet.

Quick website profit of $240

Buy low Sell high

Last week I bought a mobile related website for $60. I transferred it to my server, edited the horrible layout and sended it to a couple of my contacts (I keep a mailing list with people that ever bought a site from me). After around 6 hours I got a few replies and I sold it for my asking price of $300. A quick profit of $240.

At this moment I am in negotiations to get a similar website and the plan is to sell it again (with profit). I will keep you updated about this.

Future of Screen Technology

Interesting video from TAT Mobile about the future of screen technology. This video shows us a device with a screen that can change height and width, which is very interesting. TAT claims that their technology runs on 15% of all new phones in 2010. Impressive number.
