Well, not all investments turn out to be good. You have to take risks if you want to make money, I am aware of that. But that doesn’t mean it still feels bad if you made a wrong investment. Investments always take risk with them. Before you invest you need to check what risks there are and how you can eliminate them as much as possible.
Two months ago I bought a mobile site from a guy on the digital point forums. I looked like a great site with lots of potential. And the best thing was. It was earning a little over $100 a month on adsense. I bought it for like $1200, which seems normal with this kind of earnings. The traffic was around 600 daily so nothing wrong with that.
After the transfer of the site to my server and when i changed all adsense codes I saw… barely anything. Ok, maybe this is just a period, lets wait for a week or 2. But after this, the earnings were at an average of $0.50 a day, which results in $15 a month. This site is valued around $150 - $200 when you only look at the earnings, and I paid a DAMN $1200 !!!!
Before I bought it I ofcourse asked for adsense screenshots and they looked legit. The seller just said the adsense earnings were overall low due to the crisis, blah blah. Anyway, this site needs a lot of work to make my investment out of it again. I hope to get it at a good level in the next 6 months so I can make my investment back.
What kind of investments did you make and turn out bad? or turn out very good? lets share experiences ![]()
Oh man…..i am really sad to hear that….you shud just post the sellers name so tht other can escape similar fate
Guy from N Korea.. well, lesson learned for sure
I have yet to buy an Adsense site off of Digital Point or any other site and the reason is simple. Someone can rename a channel on the fly and you wouldn’t know the difference. If he showed you earnings from his Adsense account that looked legit and you checked out in Photoshop this is most likely what he did. All he had to do was edit a channel/website that was making money and rename it to the site name he was going to sell. This way the money looks like it is coming from the site that you are ready to purchase but in fact is coming from another site. Very tricky thing to do and I agree with TheAnand you should post in the forums about this. If you are looking to get an Adsense site that is making a little money email me and we can talk. I have about 20 sites that are just collecting dust and money because I don’t have time for them.
On a side note I invested in one of those now defunct drop off Ebay stores that popped up all over the place about 4-5 years ago. I only lost about 20k so it wasn’t that big of a deal. I should have done my due diligence on it but I didn’t, lesson learned.
Oh oh, does it get decent traffic though? There are some good affiliate networks for cell phone niche…
@Cary: Ah, I never thought about changing the channel… that sounds too easy. Guess I have too much trust in people! I will contact you by mail.
@hackcorp: It does get 400 uniques a day.. what kind of offers do you suggest for people looking for cell phone themes, currently only adsense is running
people interested in themes may be interested in ringtones. Ringtones affiliate offers pay pretty good. My friend here make a ton of his cell phone website running spoofcard affiliate offer, i think they are on papperjam…
That is just lame, I hope this project will make you profit in the end Nomar
Ahh that way, I think the volume is too small for that.. tried it before with these numbers, but didn’t work out!
Thanks John
Oh, I hate that kind of bastards because they make my websites(I always show legit earnings) worth less(buyers are scared). But it is also kind of wired - with 400 uniques per day you earn only $0.5 per day. I have plenty of websites with 15-20 uniques per day and they make about $1 per day.
Try to change ad positions and colors and other ad networks(InfoLinks brings me quite a lot and it doesn’t decrease AdSense CTR)
Interesting post, looking forward to hearing more from you!
